(Monday, 23/11/2023) Temu Tinemu, the title of the exhibition carried out by one of the collectives from the class of 2020 students of Study Programme of Fine Arts Brawijaya University, literally means “meeting” and “being brought together.” Temu Tinemu highlights interactions among art ecosystems, where artists and communities come together to interpret the concept of interaction within the art ecosystem, which is then visualized through paintings and sculptures. The event took place from May 5th to 7th, 2023, at Stupa Space, Janimani, Jl. Bendungan Sigura-Gura Barat No. 20, Malang City.

This exhibition was organized by Fine Arts students at UB in their 6th semester to fulfill one of the courses in Fine Arts, namely Art Management Application. Anindya, as the head organizer of this exhibition, explained that the organization of this exhibition is not only to fulfill coursework requirements but also serves as a learning platform for group members (students) in organizing an event and how collaboration is established with communities and artists within Malang’s art ecosystem.

There are a total of more than 40 artworks presented at Temu Tinemu with 38 artists not only from UB but also including several students from Malang State University (UM) and art communities in Malang, among them; Sketndekkene, Asri Kolaj, Teras Gambar, and an urban toys production team, Envelope Visual Atelier (EVA).

“Each artist and community has their own role. As we know, young artists in Malang are currently on the rise, and here we (Temu Tinemu) help provide them a platform to create.”

“Then, for communities like Asri Kolaj, Sketndekkene, and EVA, we also provide a platform for them to share their activities, such as during the Artist Talk on the first day, Workshop Collage on Phone Case, Workshop Toy Figure Painting featuring the Temu Tinemu mascot, and their interactive artworks for visitors to engage with,” Anindya explained.”

The abundance of exciting events managed to attract approximately 700 visitors in a span of 3 days. It’s no wonder that the enthusiasm of visitors flooded the comments on Temu Tinemu’s Instagram and TikTok accounts. On the last day, Temu Tinemu also invited several performers such as Ben Lazuardi from the band Pagi Tadi, Omenarie from Monohero, and a karaoke session as the closing event of the Temu Tinemu series.

Anindya hopes that the enthusiasm of visitors, artists, and art communities in Malang will continue to grow as new artists emerge, expanding the art ecosystem that has begun to take shape in Malang.
