Lana: A Journey to Self-Acceptance
As an Idea in Digital Art Creation
By : Puan Delya Zulvannesa Maulana
Humans go on a long journey for something they call “whole”. Starting from various starting lines – convinced or unsure, we all make an effort to step well and vigilantly in a vast world. It’s scary at times, but beautiful. Life always has a way of making us wonder; “will it ever end?”
One of the phases of the human journey is the process of self-discovery and acceptance. This phase is filled with overlapping question marks on the human psyche for all its intrapersonal conflicts. The adventure begins at a single moment where a snowstorm visits, and clear skies replace the aftermath. The storm does pass but it is worth remembering that the warmth of the sun does not always illuminate. Life is like that, it can change in the blink of an eye.
The exhibition “Lana: A Journey to Self-Acceptance as an Idea for Digital Art Creation” is a form of exploration to achieve the process of self-acceptance. Puan packs inner wounds, doubts, insecurities and other unstable feelings with an artistic process through expressive works. Together with the little girl Lana and her teddy friend, we are invited to see how Puan can finally find herself, as a whole.
The eight digital prints are proof that it takes time and struggle to accept oneself. This exhibition was also organized as a representation of Puan’s struggle to find peace in her heart. The play of contrasts is presented to show Puan’s metamorphosis from her doubtful self to a shinier, more positive, smiley self.
Struggling with one’s own head is a common experience for humans. As fragile and easily hurt creatures, it’s easy to mock ourselves for not being as good as others. Blaming yourself for your misfortune and cursing the universe is never a bridge that really gets you through, but that’s the way it goes. Sickness and recovery are real cause and effect. Enjoy your process by sitting down for a cup of tea once in a while. Wait for the fragrance to make you realize that it will all be over. A free self is an absolute price for those who want to rise from adversity. So, are you free yet? If not, let’s start the journey from here.
