GHIBAH/BACKBITING
As an idea for printmaking art silk screen
By : Hubbil Khuluqi
Humans are social creatures and are essentially inseparable from one individual to another. As social creatures, humans often have social interactions between individuals and each other, so that conflicts often occur in life. Conflict arises when there is a trigger for a problem, one of which is backbiting against a group of people, thus opening a window of hostility. Ghibah itself, according to the Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI/Big Indonesian Dictionary), is talking about the bad (disgrace) of other people which is prohibited in the Islamic religion. One of the students majoring in fine arts at Brawijaya University named Hubbil Khuluqi made a final thesis exhibition highlighting the theme of Ghibah it self in the ideas and concepts of its creation.
Hubbil Khuluqi said that the idea and concept of creation emerged when he often saw the general public carrying out giving activities around their environment, such as in families, friendships and groups of people. This phenomenon raised Hubbil Khuluqi’s awareness that he was also the perpetrator of the backbiting itself. This problem caused anxiety in him, giving rise to an idea to be taken up in the creation of his final thesis. This was intended as a criticism of the general public as well as of Hubbil Khuluqi as the perpetrator of backbiting himself.
The creation of this final thesi was realized in 7 works of graphic art using screen printing techniques. Hubbil Khuluqi’s work is influenced by several artist references and is also inspired by gossip television shows or social media related to backbiting issues. Many of the works presented depict mouth idioms as metaphors for the theme of backbiting. The idiom of the mouth is often presented in works because the mouth has an important role in social interaction and is a bridge for giving back. If you look closely at Hubbil Khuluqi’s work, it looks like a combination of several visual objects or collage techniques, but this is actually a concept in his work that discusses the issue of overlapping news or information about giving. Collage itself is the main point emphasized in the concept of Hubbil Khuluqi’s work, because in the collage technique there is a lot of speculation or multiple interpretations of the issue of backbiting which is its own attraction.
It is hoped that the exhibition of the creation of this final project will allow the public or art lovers to appreciate works of art and open up new insights and awareness in the discourse on backbiting. It is also hoped that the work of art created can provide a new perspective and provide criticism for the general public and for Hubbil Khuluqi as a consideration for not carrying out the backbiting process himself.
