FRAGMENTS OF CUTENESS
In Visual Artworks
By : Nugroho Wikan Noto
The existence of cuteness in the development of civilization has existed since humans knew a language (Rahmanadji, 2009, p. 215). Cuteness arises with a variety of causes that often provide a laughing or smiling response for those who feel it. Cuteness is not just psychological entertainment, but can be a means or medium to channel personal outbursts, social problems, and other forms of release. Therefore, humor becomes a form of optimistic attitude that can foster hopes for life.
Titled “Dank Uhuy Fragments of Cuteness in Visual Artworks” cuteness is present as a personal response to phenomena in the social sphere of society, community and between friends. The works created with the concept of cuteness are grouped into several types such as parody jokes, satire, cynicism, puns, slapstick, logic, analogy, superior-loser, surrealism, dark/black humor, sex, aesthetics, experimental, and apologism.
Laughter is good not only for the mind but also for the body medically. The response to laughter releases healthy anti-stroke hormones (endorphins), and even laughing out loud boosts the body’s immune system, triggering the production of lymphocytes as natural stress killers. These benefits are often not realized by many individuals regarding cuteness.
The presence of humor through visual artworks in the form of funny fragments imagined around the author’s personal environment is raised as a form of criticism and education. Dank Uhuy as a character created by the author becomes the main character of the work who tries to bridge the message or idea of the work to be easily understood by the audience. It is hoped that the creation of these works can also present and provide a variety of perspectives on cuteness in society.
