A number of lecturers from the Fine Arts Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a batik workshop in Lakemba Australia for the MTRI Sydney Community (Majelis Ta’lim Raudhatul Ilmi Sydney) on Wednesday (1/11/2023) to increase opportunities for internationalization, namely collaborative international community service programs.  This workshop was held in collaboration with MTRI Sydney and PS Pure Fine Arts FIB UB.

Head of the Activity Program Dyanningrum Pradhikta, S.Sn., M.Ds., said that this collaboration needs to be implemented to improve the quality and bargaining power of the study program, one of which is through the lecturer program.

The workshop was attended by 70 participants, and was followed enthusiastically and also warmly. The activity began with a presentation of the history of batik by Dyanningrum Pradhikta and continued with the practice of written batik guided by Fatmawati, S.Sn., M.Sn. and a team of lecturers from PS Pure Fine Arts FIB UB (Mayang Anggrian, S.Pd., M.Pd., A. Syarifuddin Rohman, S.Pd., M.Pd., and I Kadek Yudi Astawan, S.Sn., M.Sn.).

The batik practice starts from making batik patterns, to sagging the wax or cleaning the wax that sticks to the cloth. The result is a batik-patterned cloth with attractive colors.

Wiwit, a member of the MTRI community, enthusiastically participated in the activity.

“After this workshop I want to try myself with other colors and wider sizes of medium, it looks like it will be interesting if I design it myself,” she said.

After the workshop, both parties exchanged souvenirs, from the Fine Arts Department of FIB UB represented by Prof. Zuliati Rohmah, as the Head of Fine Arts Department of FIB UB and from MTRI represented by Enis Yuliati, the head of MTRI Sydney.

Ennis welcomed and hoped that the activity could be sustainable.

“This activity will encourage the creativity of mothers, it would be nice if in the future this activity not only targets mothers, but also targets the young Indonesian youth community here,” she concluded. [dts/OKY/Humas UB]
