Piyadasa Gallery in Malaysia is the venue for an art exhibition featuring more than 1000 artworks in postcard format, a collaboration between the Study Programme of Fine Arts, Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) and Faculty of Creative Arts Universiti Malaya. The exhibition runs from October 14 to November 15, 2024 and is supported by the Museum of Asian Art and Universiti Malaya Art Gallery, marking an important milestone in the development of contemporary art in Southeast Asia. The works displayed are the result of students, lecturers, and alumni of the Study Programme of Fine Arts FCS UB, this exhibition presents a broad spectrum of exploration of socially, culturally, and environmentally relevant themes.
This exhibition is an achievement for the Study Programme of Fine Arts FCS UB, because it succeeded for the second time in bringing the artwork of its students to the International arena. This not only emphasizes the quality and competitiveness of UB students’ artwork at the global level, but also strengthens collaborative relationships between countries in the field of art. The postcard format used gives a new dimension to the exhibition, where each artwork becomes a medium of communication that is both intimate and universal, connecting different cultures in one powerful visual language.
Not just an exhibition, this event also presents a series of other events, such as the “Art Talk & Sharing” event with speakers Mrs. Mayang Anggrian and Prof. Dr. Zuliati Rohmah. In this event, Ms. Mayang Anggrian discusses “Collective Arts & Dynamic Social Movement in Indonesia”, while Prof. Dr. Zuliati presents “Dialect Shift & Cultural Dynamism among Betawi Community in Urban Jakarta.” The discussion, scheduled for October 12, 2024, is expected to provide in-depth insights into the social and cultural dynamics that exist in Indonesia and the role of art in these changes.
In addition, the exhibition also presents an “Art Workshop Sketching” led by Mr. I Kadek Yudi Astawan on October 14, 2024. This workshop is an interactive space for participants to explore art techniques directly, while enriching their artistic experience. This series of events is expected to open new insights into the world of fine arts, as well as strengthen relationships and open up opportunities for possible cooperation with other parties in Malaysia.
