(29/11/2023) A group of Fine Arts students from Brawijaya University (UB) held the Ana Dina Ana Upa art exhibition on May 26-28, 2023. The exhibition was organized to fulfill a major assignment from the Art Management Application course. Led by Yudhananto, the group consists of 13 UB 2020 Fine Arts students who planned the exhibition activities with the theme Ana Dina Ana Upa which is a Javanese term meaning there is a day there is rice, that everything we do will have results that we can get.
This event aims to provide positive support and encouragement to friends with disabilities to awaken the spirit of creativity by organizing a series of activities focused on friends with disabilities. This event is in collaboration with the Brawijaya University Center for Disability Studies and Services (PSLD UB) where each disabled participant will be accompanied by a Disability Companion friend.
The exhibition began with a painting and ceramics workshop that participants could choose which. This workshop was held on May 20, 2023 in the graphic studio and sculpture studio, FIB B building. The painting workshop was guided by two presenters, Theodore Matthew, UB 2019 Fine Arts Student and Ananda Putri, UB 2020 Fine Arts Student. While the ceramics workshop was guided by two other presenters, namely Ahmad Annas, UB Fine Arts Student 2018 and Adinda Aisyah R.A, UB Fine Arts Student 2019.
The workshop was attended by a total of 21 participants, of which 10 were painting workshop participants and 11 were ceramic workshop participants. The enthusiasm of the participants to follow the directions during the workshop activities was seen during the process of creating the works. The works of each participant will then be displayed in an exhibition held on May 26-28, 2023 at Nyore Cafe.
The exhibition did not only showcase the work of the participants. It also featured the works of two disabled artists, Mr. Sadikin and the late Mr. Heru Surjono. This exhibition, which is open to the public, provides an opportunity for friends with disabilities to display their work to be appreciated by the general public. The event opened on Friday, May 26, 2023 with a traditional Remo Bolet dance performance performed by a dancer from Pasuruan, Restina. This was followed by a live painting by Malang artist Denjunas.
On the second day of the events continued with a watercolor painting workshop which was opened to the public with presenters by Resy, an alumni of UB Fine Arts students class of 2018 and Priyo, a watercolor specialist. Attended by 20 watercolor workshop participants where each participant was given thorough direction using watercolor by the presenters and participants were given freedom in their work.
On the last day of the event, an Artist Talk was held with a disabled artist, Mr. Sadikin, who talked about his journey and experience in art which motivated young people to continue making art. In the evening the event was closed with an art performance art by Areta Damselina, a UB Fine Arts student class of 2020.
The implementation of this event provides a lot of experience and learning to students in terms of art event management. This was said by Yudhananto, as the head organizer of the Ana Dina Ana Upa event, “There are so many new experiences in running this exhibition, the journey from planning to organizing an art event like this must have its own intrigues.” This exhibition is expected to be a learning step for UB Fine Arts students in the management of art exhibition events.
